Maurice Sendak Maurice Sendak was conceived June 10, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. His folks were helpless outsiders from Poland who came to America before World War I. A large number of his family members kicked the bucket in the Holocaust, and this was a significant impact upon his adolescence. His folks were constantly vexed about the family members they had lost and the haze of death was consistently noticeable all around.
